Location
Tarrytown is located in Central Austin just minutes from
downtown and a short ride from all that Austin has to offer.
Only blocks off of Loop 1 (Mopac), this area is still secluded
from the hustle & bustle of daily life by tall trees that surround
this wonderful old neighborhood.
A few minutes by car will get you to Austin's 6th Street district,
for some of Texas' BEST music and nightlife, and the rest of
downtown; a few minutes on foot or bicycle takes you to the
Town Lake Hike & Bike Trail.
There is a free bus directly to University of Texas from the end of the block.
All of Austin's major attractions are within easy reach from this
highly respected part of our fair city. Many are reachable by 'Dillo
(Austin's free trolley).
See the maps below for general and specific information. These are
followed by suggested routes to our place from different directions.
Routes from the Airport
The purple path is the direct highway path to the B&B.
The yellow brick road is the direct surface route.
Driving into Austin
I-35 is often moving at a snail's pace in Austin.
To avoid that, try the following:
Coming from north of Austin.
If you’re driving in from the north, this will be the easiest and
fastest way to get to bnbspa because you’ll avoid downtown and crosstown
traffic. Exit I-35 in Round Rock, following the exit signs for
Toll Road 45 and Loop 1 South. From here, you are about 20 minutes from
the B&B during ordinary traffic - there is a 75 cent toll a few
miles down the road. Stay on Loop 1 and drive south for about 15 miles.
Exit at Enfield Road. Make a right turn onto Enfield and a quick left
onto Meriden Lane (the first left after the access road). bnbspa is at
1309 Meriden Lane, in the middle of the block, on the left. There is a
world flag hanging out in front. Drive down the driveway, and park in
front of door number 2 or 3. Toot your horn, and I will be there to show
you to your room.
You may also reach us from I-35 by coming into town and exiting at
15TH ST. Then come west across town (the street's name changes to
Enfield along the way), pass under Loop 1 and take the first left
past the access road onto Meriden Lane. Our house is 1309 Meriden
Lane, in the middle of the block, on the left. There is a world flag
hanging out in front. Drive down the driveway, and park in the space in
front of door number 2 or 3. Toot your horn, and I will meet you there to
show you to your room.
Coming from south of Austin.
If you are driving north on I-35 into Austin, exit at
15TH ST. and make a right turn under the highway. Then come across town (the street's name changes to
Enfield along the way), pass under Loop 1 and take the first left onto
Meriden Lane. Our house is 1309 Meriden Lane, in the middle of the
block, on the left. There is a world flag hanging out in front. Back up to
the driveway. Park in the space in front of door number 2 or 3. Toot your
horn, and I will meet you there to show you to your room.
Driving in from points east
There is no good way to get here from 290 except on I35. Turn
south on I35 and stay on it until you reach the 15th Street
exit. Then come across town (the street's name changes to
Enfield along the way), pass under Loop 1 and take the first
left onto Meriden Lane. Our house is 1309 Meriden Lane, in the middle of the
block, on the left. There is a world flag hanging out in front. Back up to
the driveway. Park in the space in front of door number 2 or 3. Toot your
horn, and I will meet you there to show you to your room.
It is easier if you come into town on Highway 71. It looks like
290 comes in near the airport, but that is illusory. The 290
mentioned on the airport map comes into town way north of the
airport, comes down I35 and runs west from Ben White along
with 71. It is a very slow route. The directions for coming in
on 71 are on the map coming from the airport, which is on 71.
Ben White is Highway 71 thru town.)
Directions from airport
Purple Path (see main map)
Take a left turn out of the airport and you will be on Ben White
Blvd and Highway 290. Continue on, under I-35, and take the exit
for Highway 360 loop. After you come down the hill, about a half
mile, take the right turn onto Loop 1 (also called Mo Pac
Expressway). In a few miles you will cross the river. Take the
Enfield exit, which is the second exit after the river. At
Enfield, take a left turn which brings you back under the
expressway. Pass the access road and take the first left, which is
Meriden Lane. Our house is 1309 Meriden Lane, in the middle of the
block, on the left. There is a world flag hanging out in front. Back up to
the driveway. Park in the space in front of door number 2 or 3. Toot your
horn, and I will meet you there to show you to your room.
Yellow Brick Road Route (see main map)
Head west on Highway 360 (Ben White Blvd.). Watch for
Riverside Drive (ca. 2 miles) which comes up quickly on your
right. Turn right onto Riverside Dr., a somewhat winding
road. In approximately 5.5 miles turn right on to Lamar Blvd.
and cross the bridge. Take the quick right which leads back
under the bridge. Continue right on to Cesar Chavez. Go
about 0.7 miles and enter North Loop 1. Exit at the second
exit, Enfield. At the light turn left, back under the freeway.
After the access roads, take the first left onto Meriden Lane.
Our house is 1309 Meriden Lane, in the middle of the
block, on the left. There is a world flag hanging out in front. Back up to
the driveway. Park in the space in front of door number 2 or 3. Toot your
horn, and I will meet you there to show you to your room.
If you are taking a taxi from the airport during traffic times, ask
him to take the Yellow route (you'll have to have it written down).
At other times, it is quicker to take the Purple route. This will be
a higher taxi fare because it is more miles. If you are driving a
rental car and don't know Austin, you might want to take the easier
path, the Purple route. It's all highway. Just observe the signs
mentioned in the description. Many highways are merged here so you
see lots of other signs too.
